Description
This was one of the ideas I explored for the "lost civilization" painting. Once I worked it up a little bit, I found myself unhappy with how it communicated the objective. I love the colors and the peaceful feeling I get when I look at it, but honestly, I feel like it's missing an important compositional element. When I figure out what that is, I will put it in there and be much happier!

I think you're spot-on with your suggestion. The rule of thirds dictates that the focal point of this painting should NOT be the center-located mountains in the back and putting something on the right-hand side of them would be perfect positioning. If you look at the construction of the mountains on the right and imagine them to be little arrows, they are already pointing there, so integration would be easy. I really like your idea of a dark shape. I also think that I should vignette the upper left and right-hand corners with some dark clouds, to keep your eye from drifting off the painting at the corners.
